Gamepad+Dasher == !keyboard && !mouse

Hi,
I have some kind of Media PC at home, that I would like to operate completely without a mouse and keyboard, and instead use a Gamepad.
Ideally the left Joystick of the Gamepad controls the mouse cursor, and the right joystick controls a Dasher Instance, that sends text to each and every application.
Like in the following picture:
Anyone there that cares to set that up and will send me detailed instructions for Ubuntu? 
I’ve played with Dasher and the Gamepad, but I couldn’t get the mouse cursor to respond to the Pad.
